To connect to any Oracle database, it is required that you should have a valid Username and Password. If you are connecting to Oracle database which is on same computer then these two things are sufficient. But if you are trying to connect to Oracle database , which is installed on another computer , then along with the Username and Password , one more thing is required and i.e. Host Name.
